Choosing the right helmet is crucial for a good time in the sky. There are a multitude of models available for different use cases. Full face helmets cover the whole face and are chosen for comfort without the wind in the face as well as indoor skydiving. Popular full face skydiving helmets include the Tonfly TFX, SkyHelmets Fujin, Cookie G4, and Cookie G35. Open face helmets allow for the feeling of freedom with wind in the face and most camera helmets are open face as well. The most popular open face helmets are the Cookie Fuel and Tonfly 2X and 2.5X.

To ensure adequate fit check the listing for any details on fit and ask the seller for information on size and comparison to other helmet models. Different manufacturers have different sizing but the main size detail is head circumference for most of them. Check the manufacturer’s website for more information.

For indoor skydiving you will need a full-face helmet. Most full-face helmets will work as long as they have a clear and not a tinted visor (it is not as bright in a wind tunnel as in the sky). The most popular helmet amongst professional indoor skydivers is clearly the Fujin from SkyHelmets, closely followed by the Tonfly TFX. Both offer great protection and are light due to carbon-fibre material.

All manufacturers and models have their individual specialties. Generally the G4 and G35 from Cookie are the most popular. The G4 convinces by being impact-certified to XP S 72-600 and offering great protection whereas the G35 is lighter, well-fitting, and comes with options of mounting a camera with a cutaway system. The most premium full-face helmets are the Tonfly TFX and SkyHelmets Fujin. The TFX has a flip-up chin bar, is light through carbon fibre construction, known for the best noise reduction and being impact rated. The SkyHelmets Fujin is not impact rated but offers very good protection, is one of the lightest helmets available and most popular for indoor skydiving.

You are able to mount an action camera on pretty much every helmet through after-market camera mounts, many of which even have a cutaway system. In our opinion you should not get a Cookie G35 just for the option of mounting a camera as you can just as well stick one on another full-face helmet and pay less than the original G35 camera plate. However, if you are looking to get into professional camera flying or tandem videos you should get a specific camera helmet where you can mount multiple cameras and install mouth shutters. The Cookie Fuel with the top plate is a great option for comfort and performance. Tonfly is leading in open-face helmets when it comes to functionality and style. The 2X with the TF Pro Mount is the perfect mix of light versatility for fun jumps and professional camera setups for work jumps. The 2.5X has a larger flat top best for professional camera flyers using a stills camera.
