Used Skydiving Reserve Parachutes for Sale

Find and purchase reserve parachute canopies safely on Avento. Reserves are your lifeline if you have a malfunction in your main parachute or you fall unconscious and have an AAD fire. They are built to be as safe as possible by having reliable, on-heading openings and docile flight characteristics. To promote these characteristics reserves usually feature 7 cells and are made out of material with some porosity.

What to look for when buying a used Reserve Parachute

Firstly, consider the reserve size. If you need to use your reserve parachute you might be in distress or unconscious and want a larger reserve size. Many manufacturers produce LPV reserve canopies allowing you to pack a larger reserve canopy into the same container.

Secondly, different countries and manufacturers have different rules on how long a reserve canopy can be jumped. A reserve under 20 years old is generally allowed to be jumped anywhere, older reserves or reserves with many repacks might be restricted in certain countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you need your reserve canopy you are often in a bad situation, stressed, have little altitude left, possibly unconscious and maybe having to land outside of the landing area. Choose a reserve that you will feel comfortable landing.

It is commonly recommended to use a reserve size that is similar to the size of your main canopy because different canopy sizes could be problematic in case you have a two-out (both your main and reserve being deployed). However, especially with smaller main canopies the added risk of a very small reserve canopy in case you have to land in distress or unconscious may outweigh the risk of a two-out with different canopy sizes.

Many manufacturers produce low pack volume (LPV) reserve canopies to allow for a larger reserve to be packed in the same rig. Examples are the PD Optimum, Paratec Speed, or Aerodyne Smart LPV.

In our Container Sizing Guide we provide information on what size parachutes fit which containers of popular manufacturers. Consult your rigger if you are unsure or have any questions.

There are multiple options for LPV reserve parachutes if you want to fit a larger reserve into your container. The most popular one is the Optimum from PD. A great, little known, option is the Speed from Paratec, it packs even smaller than a PD Optimum, especially the older models, but the smaller sizes have a limited maximum allowed exit weight. Other options include the Smart LPV from Aerodyne or the Nano from Icarus World. Following you find a quick list of LPV reserve parachutes:
