When buying a used helmet the most important consideration beyond fit is whether it has taken a significant impact. Even without visible damage, a hard hit can compromise the internal foam that provides protection. Always ask the seller specifically about any impacts and check that the liner, visor and chin strap are in good condition. A used helmet that hasn't been in a real impact performs just as well as new.
