Used PD Sabre 2
Used PD Sabre 2 Canopies for Sale
The Sabre 2 is one of the most popular skydiving canopies of all time. It is great for beginners as it has great flight characteristics and a powerful flare and also for experienced skydivers that load it heavier and use it for swooping thanks to its comparatively long recovery arc and steep trim. Although the Sabre 3 is on the market and replaced it, the Sabre 2 is still a great option and often available for good deals in the pre-owned market.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Sabre 3 introduces a number of improvements over the Sabre 2 but is generally considered to have kept the essence of the Sabre 2 without core changes. (1) Openings: While the Sabre 3 still isn’t known for the best openings, the Sabre 2 was notorious for inconsistent, off-heading openings with the end-cells tending to not open consistently. We have spoken to the PD team about this and they told us that this is primarily because they used Spectra lines for the Sabre 2 which deform quickly and cause the off-heading openings, but many skydivers report that the openings with a fresh lineset are still not great. When we flew a Sabre 2 it never bothered us but it is good to know. (2) Rear-riser performance: The Sabre 3 is a more modern platform and many pilots report that it has better riser performance compared to the Sabre 2. (3) Harness-sensitivity: The Sabre 3 is designed to be more sensitive to harness inputs when flying. (4) Flare: although the Sabre 2 is already famous for great flare power, many report that the flare of the Sabre 3 is even stronger. All in all, the Sabre 3 has improvements over the Sabre 2 but for most skydivers the difference might not be very noticeable.
The Sabre 2 is an amazing choice for an intermediate canopy that will let you learn incredibly much about canopy piloting. It has great flare, a steep enough trim to get into canopy piloting and many skydivers even use it for wingsuiting.
