Used PD Valkyrie Canopies
Used PD Valkyrie Canopies for Sale
The Valkyrie is PD's high performance crossbraced canopy positioned between the Comp Velocity and the Peregrine. Unlike some other crossbraced canopies, it was designed with freefall use in mind, which shows directly in its openings. In the air it is highly responsive to harness input, builds significantly more speed in a dive than a same-sized Velocity and delivers long swoops with great stopping power. It comes in a standard all-ZP construction and as a Hybrid Valkyrie with sail fabric in the ribs for more power, responsiveness and even longer swoops at a slightly larger pack volume. Like the Leia from JYRO, the Valkyrie is not a suitable first crossbraced canopy. It demands experienced crossbraced pilots and rewards them with a genuinely fun, capable wing.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Valkyrie is clearly the more capable platform: faster in a dive, much more stopping power, longer swoops and significantly better ability to get back from a long spot. It also responds much more quickly to harness input than the Comp Velocity. It is more rewarding but also less forgiving, especially if you are not well-balanced at opening. The recovery arc is actually slightly shorter on the Valkyrie compared to a same-sized Velocity, which can take some adjusting to. If you are flying a Comp Velocity proficiently and want the next step in performance, the Valkyrie is the logical move.
The all-ZP is the standard Valkyrie. The Hybrid incorporates sail fabric into the ribs. PD describes it as “a Valkyrie on steroids”: more power, more responsiveness, longer swoops, more harness sensitivity and more stopping power. Pack volume of the Hybrid is approximately half a size larger than the all-ZP. Overall canopy lifespan is similar between the two.
